{"id":51,"date":"2006-12-11T01:06:45","date_gmt":"2006-12-11T09:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.11h.net\/erich\/51"},"modified":"2006-12-11T01:06:45","modified_gmt":"2006-12-11T09:06:45","slug":"creative-zenm-sweetness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/11h.net\/blog\/creative-zenm-sweetness\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative Zen:m &#8211; sweetness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While on a recent shopping trip at Fry&#8217;s in Wilsonville &#8211; not Seattle &#8211; I decided to purchase a Creative Zen Vision:m.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the Seattle Fry&#8217;s, the Wilsonville store had _every_ media player device in working order.\u00a0 It was great to actually use a product side by side &#8211; or at least\u00a0near by to\u00a0compare.\u00a0 I was able to compare the Zen Vision:m, Zune, and iPod Video.<\/p>\n<p>The screen clarity, resolution, and brightness of the Zen (or ZVM as it is also known) was far better than the iPod. \u00a0By the looks of the security devices that Fry\u2019s uses, both the ZVM and iPod have been out on display for a while. \u00a0However, the ZVM showed the least wear and scratches on the screen\/body.\u00a0 The ZVM seems to have a more impact resistance because the body is a softer plastic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gallery.11h.net\/d\/12354-2\/DSCN3175.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"m\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.11h.net\/d\/12357-2\/DSCN3179.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ZVM\u2019s response time was a little slower than the iPod \u2013 you can feel the internal 2.5 in HD spinning up when switching between \u2018Pictures\u2019 and \u2018Music.\u2019\u00a0 However, the controls are much better than the iPod\u2019s circular touch pad.\u00a0 Creative limits its touch pad to a simple up\/down. \u00a0This is far easier to use in mobile situations.\u00a0 With my iPod, I have to make a playlist before I leave a stationary position, because I can\u2019t seem to use the iPod\u2019s touch pad when I\u2019m moving.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s interesting to note that the ZVM and the iPod use the same fine pitch 30 pin connector. \u00a0Ok, well not completely.\u00a0 The signals and voltages are very different and there are two slots that are narrower on the ZVM connector versus the iPod connector.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gallery.11h.net\/v\/erich\/public\/DSCN3180.JPG.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ZVM on the left, iPod on the right\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.11h.net\/d\/12365-2\/DSCN3180.JPG\" \/><\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gallery.11h.net\/v\/erich\/public\/DSCN3184.JPG.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.11h.net\/d\/12361-2\/DSCN3184.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s pretty easy to file down the slots to make them fit however.\u00a0 The other option is to order the correct connector.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gallery.11h.net\/v\/erich\/public\/DSCN3195.JPG.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.11h.net\/d\/12377-2\/DSCN3195.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>JAE makes the connector and Mouser seems to sell the PCB male and female versions.<\/p>\n<p>DD1B030HA1R500<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While on a recent shopping trip at Fry&#8217;s in Wilsonville &#8211; not Seattle &#8211; I decided to purchase a Creative Zen Vision:m.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the Seattle Fry&#8217;s, the Wilsonville store had _every_ media player device in working order.
