When Brian was at my house a few weeks ago, he used the maemo ‘flasher’ to enable the R&D mode on my nokia 770. Basically, it allows you to do extra functions that you wouldn’t normally do; such as gaining root.
I noticed that the maemo website had a newer firmware ROM image than what was currently installed on my 770.
Because I noticed some problems with the current ROM image, I decided to update the firmware.
My concern was that if I updated the firmware, I would loose the R&D mode. As it turns out, the R&D mode flag is completely indepentent of the firmware update.
Now my 770 is on the 3.2005.51-13 firmware stack.
What kinds of problems did the firmware update fix (or was supposed to fix)? Any speed improvements?
Well, Liz was complaining that a majority of the websites she went to, wouldn’t work. I tracked it down to a wireless issue. When my ap is setup in the nokia 770 as the ‘prefered’ (automatic) connection, it seems to loose sync and won’t connect to anything. The wireless adapter seems to be enabled and ‘connected,’ but no one one was home.
I thought that an update would solve the issue, but it didn’t. Seems to be isolated to my network at home. I’m guessing that WEP has something to do with it.
Everthing else seems to work fine. It does appear to be faster, but perhaps I’m just imagining.
